Nineteen seasons of Bigg Boss Hindi have been completed, from Rahul Roy in 2007 to Gaurav Khanna in December 2025. Why season 8 is listed differently
Most winners lists record season 8 as “Gautam Gulati, 2015” and move on. That skips something that makes season 8 genuinely different from the other eighteen.
The season 8 finale aired on 3 January 2015, and it did not crown a single winner. Five housemates were left standing at that point: Gautam Gulati, Karishma Tanna, Pritam Singh, Ali Quli Mirza and Dimpy Ganguly. Instead of ending, the show rolled straight into a spin-off format called Bigg Boss Halla Bol, which began on 4 January 2015, the day after the finale.
Halla Bol placed those five “Champions” against five returning contestants from earlier seasons, billed as “Challengers”. That run ended on 31 January 2015, and it was there that Gautam Gulati took the trophy, with Karishma Tanna as runner-up.
So both dates circulating for season 8 are defensible, depending on what you are counting:
- 3 January 2015 – the end of the season 8 house run, with five finalists still in
- 31 January 2015 – the end of Halla Bol, where Gulati actually won
This table uses 31 January 2015, because that is the date the trophy was handed over. If you see season 8 dated to early January elsewhere, that source is dating the house run rather than the win.
Who has hosted Bigg Boss Hindi
| Seasons | Host |
|---|---|
| Season 1 | Arshad Warsi |
| Season 2 | Shilpa Shetty |
| Season 3 | Amitabh Bachchan |
| Season 4 onwards | Salman Khan |
| Season 5 | Salman Khan, co-hosted by Sanjay Dutt |
Salman Khan has fronted the show for sixteen of its nineteen seasons, which is why the series is so closely tied to him in public memory despite three different hosts in the first three years.
Season 19 at a glance
The most recent completed season ran from 24 August 2025 to its finale on 7 December 2025 – 107 episodes across 106 days. Sixteen housemates were selected into the house at the grand premiere, and two more entered later as wildcards, for eighteen in total. It carried a parliament-style format in which housemates formed a government, held assembly debates and voted on house decisions.
Gaurav Khanna won and took the Rs 50 lakh cash prize with the trophy. Farhana Bhatt finished as first runner-up. The season aired on Colors TV and streamed on JioHotstar.
If you are following the current cycle rather than the archive, the season 19 contestants, host and timings guide covers the line-up in detail, and the backlash the season attracted is covered separately.
What this table does and does not claim
A note on how this list was put together, because winners lists on the web disagree with each other more often than you would expect.
Winners and runners-up were cross-checked across two independent published lists that cover all seasons, and every name matched. Where a name is spelled differently between sources – Rishabh Sinha and Rishab Sinha, Shiv Thakare and Shiv Thakre – the more commonly used spelling is shown.
Dates. Exact finale dates are given where a primary season record confirms them. For the remaining seasons the finale year is given rather than a precise date, because the reported dates vary and inventing precision would not help you. A finale year here means the year the trophy was awarded, not the year the season started – most Bigg Boss seasons begin in the autumn and finish in the following January or February, which is the single most common source of confusion in lists like this one.
Not included. This table covers the main Hindi television series only. It does not include Bigg Boss OTT, Bigg Boss Halla Bol as a separate title, or the regional versions in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali, all of which have their own numbering and their own winners. The Bigg Boss Malayalam season 7 guide is separate for that reason. The American original of the format runs as Big Brother, and its winners list covers twenty-seven seasons under its own numbering.
Prize money is deliberately not tabulated. Reported figures for older seasons vary widely between outlets and are frequently repeated without a source. The Rs 50 lakh figure for seasons 18 and 19 is well established; for earlier seasons, treat any number you see as an estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Who won the most recent season of Bigg Boss Hindi?
Gaurav Khanna won season 19 on 7 December 2025, with Farhana Bhatt as first runner-up.
How many seasons of Bigg Boss Hindi are there?
Nineteen completed seasons of the main Hindi series, plus three OTT seasons that are numbered separately.
Who was the first Bigg Boss winner?
Rahul Roy won season 1, which finished in 2007. Arshad Warsi hosted that season – Salman Khan did not take over until season 4.
Has any season had more than one winner?
No season has had joint winners, but season 8 ended with five finalists carried into Bigg Boss Halla Bol before Gautam Gulati won. That is the closest the show has come to an irregular finish.
Who has hosted Bigg Boss besides Salman Khan?
Three people fronted full seasons before him: Arshad Warsi in season 1, Shilpa Shetty in season 2 and Amitabh Bachchan in season 3. Sanjay Dutt co-hosted season 5 alongside Salman Khan rather than fronting it alone.
Which Bigg Boss winners went on to the biggest careers?
This is a matter of opinion rather than record, so this page does not rank them. What the table does show is the range of backgrounds the show has rewarded – film actors, television actors, a wrestler, a rapper in MC Stan and a stand-up comedian in Munawar Faruqui.
