Rakhi Sawant: Complete Profile, Career Timeline, and Facts
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Rakhi Sawant is an Indian actor, dancer and television personality whose career has been built primarily on reality television rather than film. She first entered the public consciousness through dance numbers in Hindi cinema in the early 2000s, then became one of the format’s most recognisable figures through Bigg Boss, her own televised swayamvar, and later Bigg Boss Marathi.
She has described her public persona plainly. In a 2021 interview, she said: “I am very upfront. Whatever comes to my mind or my heart I just say it. There is no filter in my heart or my mouth.”

Why Rakhi Sawant is notable
Her significance is easy to misread if you only count films. Rakhi Sawant matters because she was among the first Indian performers to treat reality television as a career in its own right rather than a stopgap between film roles — and to do so successfully, across nearly two decades and multiple formats.
Rakhi Ka Swayamvar in 2009 is the clearest example: a mainstream Indian channel built an entire series around her choosing a partner on air. Very few performers of any standing have carried a format on personality alone in that way.
Career on reality television
Her reality-TV record is the most substantial part of her career and the part most often summarised inaccurately. The confirmed appearances:
| Year | Show | Role / outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 2006 | Bigg Boss, season 1 | Contestant in the format’s debut Indian season |
| 2009 | Rakhi Ka Swayamvar | Central figure; series built around her |
| 2020–21 | Bigg Boss 14 | Entered mid-season as a challenger; reached the top five and accepted the cash briefcase to exit |
| 2021–22 | Bigg Boss 15 | Entered as a wildcard on Day 56 and lasted until Day 116 |
| 2022 | Lock Upp | Not a contestant. She said in February 2022 that she would not join the Kangana Ranaut-hosted show. In 2026 she appeared in Netflix India’s commentary videos for Season 2 |
| 2022–23 | Bigg Boss Marathi 4 | Joined as a challenger on Day 57; walked out in the finale as fourth runner-up |
| 2024 | India’s Got Latent, season 1 | Guest panelist on Episode 12, one of the season’s best-remembered episodes |
| 2026 | Bigg Boss Marathi 6 | First wildcard of the season (Week 5); evicted on Day 91, finishing seventh |
| 2026 | India’s Got Latent, season 2 | Panelist on Episode 6, released on 6 September |
Her Bigg Boss 14 stint is the most instructive. She entered as a paid challenger rather than a full contestant, was widely credited with driving the season’s viewership, and then chose a guaranteed cash sum over a shot at the trophy — a decision she has spoken about openly as a financial one taken to fund her mother’s medical treatment. For context on how that season sat within the wider franchise, see our complete Bigg Boss winners list, and our guide to Lock Upp.
What is Rakhi Sawant doing now? (2026)
Rakhi has had a busy 2026, and nearly all of it has been on reality TV and online shows rather than in films. Here is what she has been up to.
Bigg Boss Marathi 6
In February 2026 she walked into Bigg Boss Marathi Season 6 as the first wildcard of the season, in Week 5. On entering, she said Bigg Boss “feels incomplete” without her and promised full-on entertainment. She lasted until Week 13 and was evicted on Day 91, a week before the 19 April finale, finishing seventh. The season, hosted by Riteish Deshmukh on Colors Marathi and JioHotstar, was won by Tanvi Kolte.
India’s Got Latent Season 2
She also went back to Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent. Season 2 started on 20 June 2026, and Rakhi sat on the panel for Episode 6, released on 6 September, along with Ashneer Grover, Kushagra Srivastava and Balraj Ghai.
Her Season 1 visit is still talked about. In that episode she threw a chair and walked off stage after a spat with Maheep Singh. It was never clear if the moment was planned, but the episode became one of the most loved of the season, and clips from it still do the rounds.
Netflix videos and a show of her own
Netflix India has been using her in social media videos for its reality shows, including reaction videos for Desi Bling and commentary on Lock Upp Season 2. She clearly wants more than that. In a Humans of Bombay interview in November 2025, she asked Netflix to give her a web series and said she would love to do comedy and host her own talk show. Netflix has not announced anything yet.
Why shows get a boost when Rakhi Sawant walks in
Channels keep calling Rakhi back for a simple reason: people watch, and people talk. Free Press Journal counts her among the biggest TRP boosters on Indian reality TV, pointing to the madness she brings to Bigg Boss in both Hindi and Marathi. A few things explain why it works.
- She has no filter. She says whatever is on her mind, on camera, and those moments get clipped and shared widely.
- Makers bring her in to shake things up. Four of her five Bigg Boss stints began mid-season, as a challenger or wildcard: Bigg Boss 14, Bigg Boss 15, Bigg Boss Marathi 4 and Bigg Boss Marathi 6. That is usually the point where a season needs fresh drama.
- Her moments travel online. The India’s Got Latent chair moment is a good example. Planned or not, it kept the show in the conversation long after the episode came out.
- Platforms use her for buzz. Netflix India putting her in reaction videos for its own reality shows tells you how much attention her name pulls.
Her pull even crosses the border. Before Pakistan’s Tamasha Season 5 launched, rumours claimed she was joining the house. She wasn’t, but the rumour alone got people talking.
The buzz doesn’t always turn into trophies, though. She has never won Bigg Boss. She took the money and left Bigg Boss 14 from the top five, walked out of the Bigg Boss Marathi 4 finale as fourth runner-up, and finished seventh in Bigg Boss Marathi 6. Her loud style also splits viewers. Still, for a show that needs attention fast, few names work like hers, and that is why makers keep coming back to her.
Work in film and music videos
Before reality television, Rakhi Sawant appeared in Hindi films largely through dance and item numbers, a role that made her face familiar well before audiences knew much about her. She has referred to performances including Pardesiya, Jhagde and Dekhta hai tu kya.
Her film appearances are numerous but mostly small; a complete, verified filmography with confirmed release credits is not consistently documented across reliable sources, and this page does not present a speculative list.
Family and publicly discussed health
Rakhi Sawant has spoken publicly about her mother, Jaya, who underwent cancer treatment. She has publicly credited Salman Khan and Sohail Khan with helping meet the costs of that treatment. Her mother later died, and she spoke about the loss publicly.
In 2024 she disclosed that she had undergone surgery to remove a tumour, and discussed her recovery publicly. We note it here because she chose to make it public; this page does not go into her medical details beyond that.
Marriages and personal life
Rakhi Sawant’s personal life has been the subject of sustained media attention, much of it contested. What can be stated without dispute is that she has publicly acknowledged two marriages — one revealed during her Bigg Boss 14 appearance, and a second in 2022 — and that both relationships subsequently broke down publicly.
Both separations involved allegations made by each side, some of which entered legal proceedings. This page does not repeat those allegations. They concern disputed matters between private parties, reporting on them has been inconsistent, and restating unproven claims about named individuals is not something a facts page should do.

Sources and methodology
This page uses first-party material where possible — including a 2021 Gulf News interview in which she described her own approach and career — alongside reporting from established outlets on her Bigg Boss 14 exit and her family circumstances.
Two deliberate exclusions: we do not publish a net worth figure, because none is credibly sourced; and we do not restate the specific allegations exchanged during her marital disputes, because they are unproven and concern named individuals.
